Step 1: Define Credit Control Area
Access SAP Reference IMG via SPRO.
Follow the path Financial Supply Chain Management -> Credit Management -> Credit Risk Monitoring -> Credit Control Account -> Define Credit Control Area.
Use the New Entries option to create a new credit control area. Enter a name, description, and preferred currency for this area. The credit control area represents the unit where your credit policies are applied and credit control activities are managed.
Step 2: Assign Credit Control Area to Company Codes
Navigate through Assignment -> Financial Accounting -> Assign company code to credit control area.
Assign the created credit control area to your business's relevant company codes in this step. This defines which business units will manage credit control activities.
Step 3: Define Credit Risk Categories
Go to Financial Supply Chain Management -> Credit Management -> Master Data -> Define Risk Categories under the SAP Reference IMG.
Define various categories based on customer risk levels.
This allows you to classify your customers into different risk levels, such as low, medium, and high risk.
Step 4: Set Credit Limits and Conditions
Follow Financial Supply Chain Management -> Credit Management -> Master Data -> Define Credit Segment.
Define the credit limits and conditions for each risk category. This step determines the maximum amount of credit to be extended to customers and the terms of credit.
Step 5: Integrate Credit Control Activities with Sales Processes
Follow Sales and Distribution -> Credit Management -> Credit Management -> Integration with Sales and Distribution -> Assign Sales Documents and Delivery Documents.
Here, select which sales and delivery documents will be subject to credit control. Also, under Define Automatic Credit Control, you can specify how automatic credit control will be executed.
Step 6: Reporting and Analysis for Credit Management
Configure settings for credit management reports and analyses under Financial Supply Chain Management -> Credit Management -> Information System.
This step involves reports that provide valuable insights into credit statuses, credit limit breaches, and other credit management metrics.
These detailed steps show how to establish and manage a comprehensive credit management process in the SAP system. Credit management is essential for maintaining your business's financial health, reducing receivable losses, and managing customer relationships effectively.
